This Friday, celebrate "Buy Nothing Day" with me! Stay out of the
stores, avoid the crush and madness of endless consumption! Get
outdoors and enjoy nature...and letterboxes!
I'm heading about an hour west, to hit some new boxes in Wentzville,
Missouri. I'm not familiar with the area, but I have good maps.
There is a series of three in one small park, two others in what sound
like fairly public areas, and then one by the same planter in
Chesterfield, which, time permitting, I'll nab on the way home.
Happy Turkey (or Tofurkey [TM]) Day to you and yours!

We just discussed this at dinner. I am going to print out clues for
Cincinnati! Last year we spent the day in Rush County, IN. If we still
have time on Saturday or Sunday we may head over to the Dayton, OH area
and pick up the Mom-isms!

I wish I could celebrate with you. I will have to buy gas a time or two. Wentville? Is that around Kingdom City? I would love to exchange with you if we meet up. My wife and two daughters will be with me, we love to letterbox together. If you would E-mail me at my ISP site we could swap cellphone numbers. I don't mean to sound pushy, but we just love this stuff.

I'm not boxing on "Buy Nothing Day," I'll be working a twelve-hour shift trying to sell merchandise so that the company stays in business and I can continue to have a job and support my family.

Hey, all of our family will be out there supportin' ya! :-) There's enough
time to box the rest of the weekend. And, frankly, it's one of the best
people-watching days of the year.
Decades ago, the day after Christmas used to be the best people-watching day
of the year. But Black Friday has overtaken it. After the first major
crushrush, I like to sit in that little cafe inside Fry's Electronics, have
hot chocolate and an avocado sandwich for breakfast, and watch folks.
Y'know, that's something to think about for next year. A letterbox hidden
inside Fry's that's only available on Black Friday just for kicks. With all
the commotion, a finder could probably stamp away right in the middle of the
store and absolutely nobody would pay any attention. Hide it the day before
& pick it up the day after. Gotta make a note to myself for next year. :-)
Wouldn't really expect to get any finders but it would be fun to do.

*sigh* Whatever. It would be nice if Sheba (and everyone else stuck
working in retail) could spend the day WITH her family and enjoy their
company, just being together; or perhaps (weather permitting) outdoors
enjoying a little letterboxing. But yeah, let's keep this economy
steamrolling along; damn the consequences! Set the alarm for 4AM
honey; we've got to go SHOPPING!
I wonder how many people will get trampled at Wal-mart this year...

Now THAT'S the spirit!!!
Thanksgiving is the holiday, not Black Friday. I have to work on Friday
and I don't even work retail (though I did it for 7 years). Yes, it
would be nice if you could take everyday off to spend with your family
in the great outdoors, but you can't, that is just the way it is. Even
FDR, the great socialist, knew the importance of the consumer economy as
he wanted to move Thanksgiving up in November to extend the holiday
shopping season (not that it matters these days).
I would rather we have the steam rolling economy then the double digit
unemployment and low growth rate of the European nations...
Oh, wait, I'm doing it...
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
(and do lots of shopping tomorrow!)

Yes, I am not advocating we stop shopping entirely, because I do PLENTY
shopping the other days of the year. I am just making a conscious
decision to not shop on the one day that someone else said matters more
than any other.
It was interesting to see all the McDonald's in my town closed today, even
the one near the interstate.
Has anyone else seen the malls welcoming Santa's visit already? He was in
town last weekend or the weekend before that. Yeah, that really makes me
want to spend my money now, and more of it!??!

Well we are leaving out in the morning. We are going to hit one in
Corbin, Ky, one in Warrensburg, Mo, and one in Columbia, Mo. The
thing I am thankful for today is that my son-in-law is going to keep
our dog for us. Happy Thanksgiving and happy hunting.

The only reason I will "buy nothing" tomorrow is because I hate
crowds with a fiery vengeance. And I got some letterboxing in today,
so I will probably just spend tomorrow enjoying a quiet day off. And
there are those stamps to carve for about 5 postals.....

This is my first post in what I hope to be a long career in
letterboxing. I stumbled upon Letterboxing about a month ago while
playing around on the internet at work. I was checking the links on
WheresGeorge.com, and happened upon letterboxing.org. I have 7 finds,
and I'll plant my first one tonight. I actually am going to do a
little shopping today during my lunch break. I'm going to buy my
first speedball carving set. I've bene using an exacto knife, and my
fingers look like work in a razor factory.

Well, I must say that I managed to do both. It was a long 13 hrs,
but we were up at 4am, shopping by 5am & on the road to Terre Haute,
IN, by 7am. Not only were we successful in our shopping, but we had
a beautiful, 65 degree day - not a cloud in the sky - and most
importantly, we were extremely successful in our hunt.
Found 9 out of 11, 3 first finders (2 found by me) & got some
awesome stamps! Home around 8pm.
What a great day!

We visited my son & the family on Thanksgiving Day in Ct.. We did go
letterboxing on Buy Nothing Friday. We got 7 very easy historical letterboxes in a
cemetery. Felt good about not shopping and being out doors with the family on
a beautiful late fall day.We did get a little shopping done when we got home
on Saturday.

Well, I did not buy these from a grocery store. The store where I
bought my shoes and all my other gifts has a specialty foods area with
all those fancy holiday gift packs and imported foods from Italy and
Poland and such. It was fun to shop and said bruschetta spread was
maybe $3. I also bought pickled porcini peppers [sp?] bc whenever my
mom goes to The Olive Garden she steals the peppers from the salad
they serve bc she loves them. And all kinds of antipasti items,
specialty olives, all kinds of spreads and spices. So I am not really
off the hook there LOL
Last night I started gift wrapping.

Good for you (wraping gifts already). I bought three gifts and I think
that's great. I did not shop on Friday. I letterboxed.
